Yes, it is that relaxing! Lake Lawtonka is a clean RV Park near Medicine Park, OK and Ft. Sill Army Base. It is just a few miles from Lawton, OK. The park is not glamorous but the sunsets are amazing! The picture above is me watching the sunset over Mt. Scott which is on the Wichita Wildlife Refuge.
Our site was right on the lake and it was just a short walk to the beach area. We decided to go camping on a spur of the moment just because it had been a busy and tiring week. Our mission was relaxation and we achieved the mission. The campground was quiet and well maintained.
There is so much to do near the campground. Of course there is swimming, boating and fishing. We enjoyed visiting Medicine Park and soaking up the local culture of artists and music. There are amazing little shops, The Old Plantation Restaurant, swimming in the river, and taking in all the sites.
The little town is made up of quaint cobble stone houses and cabins. Several of the adorable cabins are for rent. After checking out the town, we drove to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. You will see buffalo, long horn cattle, elk and prairie dog towns. A drive up Mt. Scott and visiting the Holy City are must do’s.
Drive up Mt. Scott
Now, back to Lawtonka Campground to get ready for the sunset! We grilled our steaks, had a glass of wine and positioned our chairs toward the west.
